I made one of these gorgeous felt flowers for my wood handle purse and I get so many compliments on it. I promised I would post a tutorial on how to make these flowers so here it is! They are soooo easy to make! You will need felt (I used wool felt), a needle and thread, scissors , the flower petal templates, and hot glue.
I first created some wacky flower templates. Below is a scaled down version of the templates. Click on the picture to get to the full size (the full size graphic is 8.5 x 11 inches).
Pin the templates to your felt to cut out the flower shapes.
Once all your pieces are cut start sewing the petals together. Start with the larger pieces. Pinch the centers together and sew through the fold, this will make them three dimensional. Continue adding pieces rotating direction in no particular order until all pieces are sewn together.
It took more than four steps to sew all the petals together, I just wanted to show the progression of the flower coming together. When you are done it should look similar to the picture below.
The best part about these flowers is that no two are exactly same. If you are a sloppy hand sewer like me the back of your flower will be a hot mess. That’s okay though. Just cut out a small circle of felt and hot glue it over the messy stitches.
You can then add a loop of felt to add it to a headband or pin. Or you can glue it to a hair clip.
At first I was going to use the pink flower on a headband but then changed my mind and added the pin to embellish my wood handle purse. That is why there are two felt strips on the back.
Aren’t they beautiful and perfect for spring?
